air temperature sensor and a/c lights blinking
Hi, all.
I made a post a while ago
https://volvoforums.com/m_66493/tm.htm
In that post I described how my a/c lights were blinking when I started the car, and the problem was likely the air temperature sensor (not the one related to the dashboard temperature readout). I had a picture of this sensor in the haynes manual, and JPN was kind enough to lend assitance. Despite his best efforts, it remained elusive. I took it to the local volvo dealer. They charged me some money for their trouble, but they could not find the sensor. Their conclusion was that it was missing. I wish I knew why someone would have removed the sensor and never reconnected it.
Sooooo
1) what is this sensor good for?
2) if it's good for something important, does anyone have a part number?
3) Pretty weird, huh?

RE: air temperature sensor and a/c lights blinking
Hello again,
And here's another attempt:
There are a total of 5 temp sensors for the AC input. 2 on each side behind the handles, 2 on the duct, and the last one in the engine compartment. See attached pic.
The sensors provide temp input to the ECU, and then the ECU decides what temp is most suitable for the given condition. It may turn on/off the AC compressor, etc...
If the AC works fine after the blinking stops, I would leave it as it is. If, however, it fails to function, then you may want to retrieve the code again to see if the same code comes back. The code tells you which sensor is faulty.
I am not sure if the sensor was actually missing or if it failed to function. See if you can find them on your own. It is hard to imagine someone would have removed a temp sensor, unless by accident.
I hope this helps this time.
