That's a tough one. Most cars over 15 years old are hand-me-downs so my guess would be that 50% of the owners are around 20. After than you have the older group that really don't need to impress women any longer because they are either to broke to do so or have been married for 20+ years. LOL
On my last road trip, my wife advised me to look behind me and try to remember that I "am" driving a station wagon. LOL I sometimes fold the rear seats down and tell her that we are in our 2 seater sports car.

I don't believe in car payments, either. The exception would be if I plan on keeping the car until I die. Then again, they don't make cars like they used to, so I think I'll always stick with solid used cars. Also, a lot of people think it is quite impressive to even change the oil on your own, let alone suspension work, pcv stuff, etc...

I got this idea from the TDI forum, and decided to bring it over here.
I'm curious, what is the median age range of Volvo 850 owners? No offense to anyone, but I bet its around 50-55. I also guess I'm one of the youngest here at 16, though.
Anyways, participate in the poll above to find out!

car payment is giving away free money. l am 24 and my landlord always was in a fight with me for working on my car and finally l moved out. geez. l was always working on my baby. my sis always says to me, bro l will need your car when a bad weather hits us because its safe and fast. my 850R looks sweet with volans, thats enough for me.nobody to impress.lol

Well I am 62 and got my 96 855 T 6 years ago. I finally upgraded from my 88 Audi 90 Quattro sedan. Kids were older and ran out of room to go camping. When we did a test drive of this car, my looked in the back seat and saw the kids and that was it. Since then I have added 97K miles to the clock which sits at 197.
Getting ready to do a major upgrade/maintenance to her. Brake upgrade to 302, Timing belt, Valve stem seals, spoiler Rear and V70 lower front (like that look), maybe XC90 rails (like that look) and I have always wanted a front tow bar and lights (like the build off winner at IPD).
I am also with the others, don't like to give the bank interest. Though they say you either have car payments for repair bills. However, being a DIY car guy, makes it affordable to have those parts get paid off in only a few months.
I plan on keeping my wagon for a long time. Should last past 300k miles.

I just turned 64 and this is my 6th Volvo, 3 850 Turbos/R/T5R's. I started with an 85 760 Turbo Diesel, then a 89 760 Intercooler (did not care for this one at all), then a 94 850 Turbo, a 97 850 R, a 98 V70 GLT and lastly my Yellow T5R. Thinking of trading the BMW 330XI in on a S60 R, but not sure yet. I wish they still made something like the 850's.

I'm 52. this is my first Volvo. I just upgraded from a very worn out Civic because my commute went from 2 kms to 55 kms (don't ask). I wanted a larger car that my fellow ride shares would not be afraid to be seen in and was more comfortable. I was originally looking for another Accord but anything that was for sale was pretty well beat. My '96 850 has only 120,000 kms and looks like new. I don't do any of my own work on my wife's Accord because of the huge PITA factor. This Volvo looks much easier to work on and I'm planning to do all the work my self.

28- and no payments. Thank goodness. I have Dave Ramsey to thank for that.
I make money on my cars, so usually I buy them anywhere from $500-$1500 and fix them. Usually a broken timing belt or some electrical issue. Fix them up and usually they are worth $3000 to $5000 afterwards. Drive them for a bit until I get the urge to buy another tow-it-home.
Come to think of it...I have towed nearly every car I own right now home. Still, I have had some pretty neat cars in the last 4 years. No one seems to understand it. They think the only way to own a car is to finance it, make payments, and trade it is for 1/10th of the value they paid for it 5-6 years ago. Drives me nuts.

Actually of all the Volov's I've owned that is the one I had the most trouble with. Had to replace the Head Gasket at 140K and it went bad again at 220K and I got rid of it. I really liked the looks of it with the R spoiler. I'd still have it though had I not found a yellow T5R.
