Before I recharge the AC...

Before I recharge the AC on my son's 1995 850, I want to make sure that this is the correct loow-side port.

See pictures. The valve is circled in yellow.

When I loosened it by hand using the black cover, there was a noticable bubbling and leak. Is this expected? Car was off and cold.

Thanks,
JM

Yes that is the low side port where you charge it.The 850's don't have a high side port.

When you see bubbling there that means the schrader valve is bad.

RE: Before I recharge the AC...

Is changing a Schhrader valve on an AC system about the same as changing one on a bicycle tire? Just screw it out and screw in a new one? I am assuming that changing the valve will release all of the R134a.

Thanks,
JM

Yes it is like changing one on a bicycle tire.

And yes you will loose all the freon.
