Default Blower motor working sporadically?

I have a '96 850 non-turbo with an ECC blower control.

The blower will work one minute and not the next. I went a week without it (didn't check to see if it worked frequently) and now it works again. This has happened several times.

Any ideas?
Obviously there could be a loose wire somewhere which is going to be a nightmare to track down, but I was wondering if there was something else that could cause such sporadic behavior?

thanks

I am having the exact same problem with my '95 850 turbo. Hopefully someone has some suggestions.

Im not sure if there is one, or even where it would be, but it sounds like it could be a relay issue to me....

Just a stab in the dark though...

i had this same problem about 6 months ago. try and replace the blower motor resistor unit. Those tend to fail over time, and that's exactly what happened to me. It's very easy to get to and replacing it takes like 15 min.

here's a link to a site that'll tell you how to do it:

Is this for an MCC or ECC, in other words does your fan have a 1,2,3 and 4 setting?

Thanks

this is for the MCC, mine has the 1, 2, 3, 4 settins. The ECC's resistor unit doesn't look like that, those'll have a huge heatsink on it.

Just for reference:
ECC looks like this: http://www.fcpgroton.com/product-exe...category_id/78

MCC (the one for the 1, 2, 3, 4 setting) looks like this: http://www.fcpgroton.com/product-exe...category_id/78

So do you think it could still be a faulty resistor unit if i have an ECC system?

that, i don't know, but it might be worth a try since a thermal fuse replacement on the resistor unit is like $2 from radio shack
