But if it is actually grinding from metal-to-metal contact, count on new rotors or needing machining. If you do a pad swap only with bad rotors, the new pads will be chewed up fast.
You can always remove the wheels and do an inspection yourself just to see if there is any meat on the pads.

It's a fairly easy DIY if you are at all mechanical. I have done it several times. You can probably replace the pads and rotors for less than the dealer will charge for jut pads. I think brake jobs are one of the biggest rip-offs around. Are you sure the fronts are good? Here is a link with some instructions on how to do the rear brakes:
