Hey,

I have an '97 850 with 117,000 miles on it. It runs well & sound fine. However, when I try to start it up, gray-blue smoke comes out of the exhaust. When the RPM's go back down, the smoke goes away, and if you hit the gas when it's in park, the smoke comes out again. When you actually drive it though, nothing comes out. I have not taken it to a shop or anything, seeing as I just got it yesterday. I was just wondering if there was a simple solution.

I would replace the vent box and clean the vent system.

 

+1 It seems like lately we are seeing a lot of PCV related issues. Is it due to the age of the cars, or just a coincidence?

 

Sorry, but I'm not sure I know what the "PCV" is or what to do about it. ha-ha

 

Try searching vent box and that should give you an idea.
PCV= Positive Crankcase Ventilation
