Default volvo brakes?!

i have a 1996 850 wagon

i have Volvo everything that has to deal with the front brakes but ofcourse they grind..not squeak but grind. i know volvos have a problem with brake noises but i have only witnessed and heard of squealing with aftermarket items

and yet the pads have life and so do the rotors adn the fluid is good and the caliper is workign correctly..

any advice before i go to the dealer?!

This may sound stupid but, have you had a look at the rearside of the brake rotor, as a lot of people simply check the condition of their vehicles brake rotor by looking at it through the area between the spokes of the wheels?

A grinding sound is usually caused by metal to metal and is usually one sure way of having to replace a scored rotor.

My drilled rotors have sort of a grinding sound all of the time and it is normal. I've heard the slotted rotors make a funny noise as well but I don't have any slotted rotors.

Once other note:

Don't try to change out your pads at night - in the dark. I put new pads and rotors on my Platinum by feel and managed to get the outboard pad backwards in the dark. It scored the crap out of my brand new rotor just backing out of the driveway. They stop fine after correcting the err and the embarrassing score marks are slowly going away.

I do think cocktails were involved.

Is there a lip on the outside edge of the rotor?

But eventually you will loose power assist for the brake with engine off and the brake peddal will be hard to push.
