Default Burning a Little oil now at idle

This started fairly recently. After driving for awhile, engine warmed up etc, if I sit idling after driving for while about 4-5 after stopping I notice some smoke out of the exhaust looks like its burning oil, its fine for a few minutes idling then starts up. PCV is about 10k old, no smoke out the dipstick or anything, turbo i believe is original , and i recently put a stage 1 ipd tune in the car. any ideas or advice to try to narrow it down?

thanks

If I had to guess, your turbo is leaking oil. Not unusual. Pull off the intake hose between the turbo and the airbox. A little oil is normal, soaked with oil is not. Also, check the turbo shaft for play. again, a little up- and- down play is normal, lots of it is not, and there should be no noticeable back- and- forth play (pushing toward the exhaust side, then pulling out) If the turbo IS wearing out, don't wait too long to have it rebuilt, because if blades start rubbing the sides, cost to rebuild starts going up. Usually, diesel engine shops will also rebuild turbos if you want to know where to look. They have the tools necessary to do it right and make sure it's balanced. There's DIY kits online, but this is a bad idea- it's impossible to balance the blades again without the right tools and knowledge- just a tiny bit of imbalance will quickly wear out anything that spins 150,000 RPM like a turbo!

Was the PTC cleaned? Have you done a compression test lately?

I would keep an eye on the oil level for a 1000-2000 miles. BTW: what were the compression numbers? Just curious...

Could it be your valve stem seals? I had the same thing going on a few weeks ago. Start up was fine then once it's warmed up I had some blue smoke at idle.
Valve Stem Seals were shot and replacing them fixed the problem.

EDIT:
Great compression numbers!

Wow. That's not good. That's like-new.

That's white/gray smoke, right? I would also run a bottle of techron and see if that improves things...

Just stnt you a PM on SS about it.. Like Carrots said, a little oil is perfectly normal. And if the smoke is during idle, I really think it's probably the Valve Stem Seals...
