A/C
Back to square one, A/C compressor only runs and system pumps out cold air in defrost mode only. Compressor does not engage in auto mode. I have read about flashing codes on indicator lights, but both rec,and a/c light iluminate when swiched on no flashing. Suggestions anyone.

I would have the codes read & reset at a Volvo dealer, though they charge $$$, unless you can find a code reader for the ACC (I haven't seen one yet). For '93-'95 models, the codes can be read & reset manually by the owner, but your 850 is of '96, correct?
There are quite a few posts on the A/C problems, so go through each and if you still didn't find a solution then I'll come up with something else.
