Default Car cranks, does not start, no cluster lights.

Just bought a 95 855 N/A. Everything electrical works accept the cluster lights. The car cranks but wont fire or try. I dont know if its sparking, light testing with a plug wire says no.

Thoughts?

I am suspecting the ECU or the ignition switch. I will video tomorrow when its light.

Hmmm; you mean as in "no cluster lights"? or cluster illumination lights?

Start with basics; ck for 12v to/from ignition coil; maybe the cam sensor, etc. Do you have a schematic to work from?

I could use a schematic if you have something.

Made progress last night. Checked the coil for power, was dead so I backfed voltage to the coil and when I did I heard the fuel rail pressurize. I checked the dash lights and they were lit. I started the car!!! She is alive.

Now I need to find out why its not getting voltage. Still banking on the ignition switch.

I downloaded the wiring from:

http://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/dow...ng_diagram.pdf

and on page 6 is a pic of the relays. The one you are interested in is 106.

Thank you all for the diagrams. Found the problem. Checked Fuse #1 and it had power. Fuse #2 did not. Hunted down the OverLoad Relay. It was easy to find. I replaced it with another I had and now the car runs great.

The Overload relay pictured on top of the cover where it is located.

Honestly Boxpin, I kept looking at the date of your post, thinking that these posts might have been old, LOL. How is papa's car coming along?

Papa's car is doing fine. Waiting for a clear day with no wind to paint.

Installing the FMIC today.

Those Argo wheels on the 855 NA seem like RWD wheels.

I know this is an old post, but I am going through the similar diagnosis for a 1994 850 GLT wagon. I've replaced the Fuel Pump Relay, Injector Relay (the one above the radiator fan) and Relay E in the Relay box, which says it is the Overload relay. Still no fuel pump sounds.

What am I missing?

Well do you have pwr (12v) at fuse #2? And/or you can check it at the fuel pump too. If you have pwr and ground at the fuel pump, but still the pump is not running, then the pump itself has failed. They typically fail at around 100K miles or so from my experience.

Default 1996 850 turbo gone wrong... Electrical...

As I said above its gone wrong. I've been working on the car for a year now on and off and I finally got it running. Very rough..... Very ...
but the battery wasn't good enough to drive it to it's final destination where I could finish it and make it stable, long story short I put a different battery in the car which resulted in the battery being backwards and yeah .... Smoke came from the alternator and the fuses under the hood along with an array of problems to follow, which include but are not limited to! No power to instrument cluster at all, no power windows, no AC/fan. Plus the car won't start anymore. I checked relays and fuses. Replaced the bad fuses, a few blew. I'm pretty sure the fuel pump relay is bad. I tested it and it started humming also a j relay is bad so I gotta replace that, but I check to see if the correct wattage is coming from the connector and where the J relay blew the housing isn't getting any power, so I need to figure that out also. The other relays seem to be okay. Also not getting any spark, plus if anyone could help me find the exact type of bolt used on the camshaft sensor that would be amazing. I don't know if I should be posting this here but I don't want to be the person that starts a thread not knowing where to start it. So I'll just comment here and hope someone can help.. Thanks.

@gdog I checked as you suggested, and indeed the pump red and black wires were showing 12V. No noise when turning on ignition. Ordering the replacement pump.

Old fella is getting long in the tooth. Bought it for my new kid in '94 and now he's about to leave home at 27.
