Default Car Speakers

Hey,
At least 2 of the speakers in my 1995 850 are blown...badly. Is it difficult to change the speakers in the front doors? Also, what type/size/brand would you recommend?

-Thanks

I believe you have to take the entire door panel off to get to the speakers... Possibly breaking some clips that hold it in place. So most likely buy some to replace the broken ones...

I believe the size in the dash are 3" the front and rear door 5 1/4" and the rear deck 6x9". I know more info then you wanted...

I would look into Infinity Kappas and or Boston Acoustics. Bostons low end line are nice speakers. I had them in my old 850 and they sounded good.

Just an FYI if you ever do replace the rear deck speakers, regular 6x9's wont fit in the housings. I used 5x7's and they worked nicely.

S70 is correct on the sizes. For the front door speakers you will only need to remove the speaker cover. The 5.25" will fit, but you will most likely need to drill some new mounting holes as the bolt pattern will probably not match up. If you use 6" x 9" in the rear deck you wont be able to reuse the stock covers. you will reuse the bottom part of the speaker cover though. A 4" x 6" speaker would probably work and allow you to reuse the stock cover. I don't know that for certain as we put 6" x 9" in my sons 850 and used the cover that came with the speaker.

If you have stock speakers, I believe they are 8 ohm. It is hard to find 8 ohm speakers so you will likely replace them with 4 ohm speakers. Therefore I suggest you replace all 4 door speakers at the same time.

I'll toss my one tip a friend taught me. When looking for speakers, look at the RMS. The higher the number the better the speaker. At the time I learned this the Sony X-plodes were all the rage. Instead my friend lead me to some Kenwood speakers. They were cheaper by $20, but the RMS was higher by 10. The sound quality was flawless. Man this is making me miss my old Dodge Aries haha.. Kenwood 6x9's and Boston Auc 3" speakers in the front small slots, plus a box.. ahh memories... lol spent more on the system than the car haha..
