Default CD changer compatibility

Can I use a Kenwood 6d changer with the stock radio (with cd controls...)? It has the larger 13-pin connector in the side. I know Alpine was standard, but was there anything special done to the unit to make it compatible?

So there is something special about the Alpine unit to make it exclusive to the Volvo head unit?
