Default check engine light wont clear

ok, so i have done it a million and a half times (clearing a CEL) but this time for the life of me i cant get it to clear out. not sure if im having a brain fart or what.

the light originaly came on because my stupid a$$ decided it would be a good idea to pull off the MAF connector with the car running (dont ask why, idk).

ideas?

are you clearing it with the car off key on? Are you clearing the codes from under the hood or in the car? If you're using the DLC under the hood are you checking both terminals for codes? Have you performed a capacitor discharge? Disconnect the positive and negative terminals and connect them for a while to allow the static built up in the computers to dissipate.
