Control Box unit and air conditioning
What steps should be taken to trouble shoot a broken A/C? Blower works. Been dealing with this for 3 years now, since A/C quit. Trouble shooting led us in circles. Finally got working diagnosis to replace the Control Box. Finding a working unit has been very challenging to say the least. Our control Box number is a 6808 - we've been told it is "manual" as opposed to??
Ebay models have been priced from 650.00 range (rebuilt) to 150.00. Should we only consider a rebuild?
Anyone else ever trouble shot the A/C issue on the 850 wagon (1996)? Any suggestions? Thanks

where are you located and does your car have the automated climate control or a manual? If you are in the US, you can try going used. car-part.com is a good resource to search yards. Not sure what the 6808 refers to - is there a Volvo part number on your box like 9134988 or 9166550?

Somebody had to tell you it was manual? I always worry about a statement like that. You need to tell us that YOU say it's manual.
On the manual there is nothing there that can be rebuilt, so that's an easy choice at least. They're very reliable in my experience. I had a car with 300,000 on it, where the thing was still going. They're also rare in the USA (automatic is more common) and painful to remove and install.
These 850's are flying into the junkyards, and honestly, parts are about worthless. Give us some more detail about what you consider a source. I think I've actually got one.
