Crunching noise when accellerating and fully steering
 

When my I'm steering full to the right or full to the left and try accellerating only the tinyest bit, there's a weird crunching noise coming from the front wheels. A bit of a clicking noise, sort of as if you're repeatedly cracking a joint in your own body. When I accelerate, the clicking occurs faster and faster, relative to the speed of the wheels/engine revs (haven't figured out which yet).

It only happens when I steer AND accelerate, not when I'm only fully steering or only accelerate. The ball joints were also recently replaced (<6 months) so I don't figure they're the problem.

Anybody know what this is?

CV Axle's are shot... if you look under the car behind the wheel, youll see the ripped boots.. easy fix... auto zone offers a lifetime warranty with their axles you could do both for around $150 plus core.. Unless you have a corperate account then you looking at $45 for the right and $55 for the left with out the core, but they will most likely have to order the left.. Just ordered mine on sat..

Turns out you can't order those when you're not from the US. I'm from Holland, so that's a bit of a problem for me.

I went searching for some used axles, and found a Volvo-specialized car-disassembly company. They had some axles for the Volvo 850 according to their site, so I went and asked if they'd be compatible with my Volvo 850 T5 stationwagon.

He then asked if mine was attached with a bolt or a nut, so I went and took off the plastic cap in the middle of the wheel; there was a nut.

He then proceeded to tell me that his were with a bolt and not a nut, and would therefore not compatible

Stunned, I went on a search-crusade; what I found was that early models (<'95) had a M20 nut, and later models had a self-tightening M22 nut - no mention of a bolt.

I'm not sure what to make of it. Is he talking gibberish? Does a driveshaft with a bolt even exist for the Volvo 850?
