CV Boot Removal 850
Much easier with the grease.
OK, I followed your instructions with the first pack of grease and it basically filled the bowl with room left for the spline. I have this second pack of grease....should I just fill the boot with it? Otherwise, it's just extra as there's only one boot in the kit.

As long as it looks like the Same grease stick some in the boot.
Not to much is needed once the joint gets hot the grease and splash into the boot. Also the Boot really just keeps the Dirt out.

Hi Tech, well I'm basically done thanks to you. I just need to double check the torque specs on the axle nut.
Before this, I'd say replacing brake pads was about as complicated as I got. Just so you know what a novice you were coaching, as if you hadn't already guessed. I'm replacing the pads on this car too. Thought all I had to do was the pads on the other side. Well.........you guessed it split boot on the other side. So here we go again. But thanks to you, I should be able to do this one a lot quicker.
One question, is there a trick to getting the two bolts back into the top strut? I had a hard time doing it, and want to avoid that problem on the second go round.

I have seen people do it but I don't use Anti-seize on any of those bolts.
The 2 Bolts once you do it a couple of more times you should have it figured out.
Sometimes sticking a screwdriver in one of the holes when you slide it together will help.

Everything was going smooth on the second install, then I so totally screwed up. I messed up the threads just a little on the CV joint spindle and cross threaded the axle nut. Shoot! I may try filing the threads to repair them, but most likely I'll probably have to buy an axle as the cv joints by themselves seem a bit hard to find.
See if you can get a die and recut the threads before buying a new axle. If it's not too bad it might work. I have no idea how big the axle is where the thread are though, so I might be way off base here. But when I was putting my cam cover on, I stripped one of the holes and I bought a tap and tapped it out to one size bigger. I was leaking oil through the hole before I tapped and that fixed the proble.
Thanks for the advice. The thought did cross my mind to use a die, but I had to use a 36mm socket for the axle nut, so I was thinking it might be hard to find a die large enough. Guess I should try. Unless you know a place I can order just a cv joint at a reasonable price.
I didn't know they made those Tech. I wonder how I'll be able to determine the pitch. I have a set of tiny files including a triangle one, I wonder if that will work. I'm wondering if I should get a new axle nut too?
I now have definitive proof that there is a God in Heaven. I have experienced a true miracle. A little filing and a little grinding, and the axle nut is ON. The threads on the spindle don't look real pretty, especially since I also kind of messed up the back split side of the nut too.
Now I have to pray that the rotors and everything else passes inspection.
Many thanks, and blessings to you and your family, Tech (and you too, Jim).

ONe thing I forgot to mention. I'm not happy with the shape of the boot. It's not folding into it's accordion shape, but is creasing. I'm concerned that I might have got a vacuum inside of it that's not allowing it to expand to it's proper shape. I'm think of cutting off one of the bands and replacing it with the screw type pipe clamp.
