Dash pad airbag cover
The vinyl on my dash pad has lifted badly at the front of the passenger
airbag cover. It has buckled upward about 1/4 inch from heat and
the sun. The front edge of the airbag cover is also lifting although
not as badly.
I think I can glue this back down, but I have never had the dash pad
off so I have a couple of questions:
1. What type of glue works best for this? I have some stuff called
Perma Poxy 5min Plastic Weld by Permatex, has anyone tried this
stuff? Will it withstand the heat?
2. Is it possible to remove the airbag cover from the dash pad and
then reinstall it or does removal destroy it? The gap between the
airbag cover and dash pad is pretty small and doesn't leave much
space for application of glue, clamping the edges down, etc.

It is kind of a pain to remove the dash pad.
Would be best to try to glue it the way it sits.
Once the dash pad is off you pretty much destroy the material to get it off.
That is after removing the air bag to get to the material.

Hi tech,
Thanks for the advice, I will glue it without removing it.
I found a picture of one 850 where the airbag had deployed and
it looks like the cover is hinged at the front edge so it wouldn't
help to remove it anyhow.
Thanks, John

Just make sure that your DIY job dos not interfere with air bag deployment. Unless you want to sit your mother in law there and crash against a tree at 80mph. ;-)
Axelm bite your tongue :-)
Best regards, John
Tech, not to dissent...but I just took the dash pad off my scrap car... not really that hard. First pop out all the air vents...there are 5 screws going into the dash pad from the vent openings incl 2 in the speedo opening...there are 2 screws on each end and on screw under the passenger side speaker grille once all those are out...lift it out gently...I thought there would be more to it...prob helps when you have a car you know you are just going to 'throw away'
My reply above was to the fact of you remove only the air bag portion to try to fix the peeling problem. If is a pain to get it all apart.
I have one that I have all apart and am fixing slowly so I have a perfect or nearly perfect one in the Yellow R.

I hear ya...I have one that is nearly perfect...what are those worth? I have a guy that is coming over tomorrow buying 2 fenders, a door, and the dash pad for $140, does that sound like a 'deal' or is it to good of a 'deal'? I am gonna throw this car away anyway so I figure I am all to the good and I am doing good for someone so I win...
