Default Dashboard mount repair or replacement

Hi All,

I already opened up my dash for odometer gear replacement, I saw that my dashboard mount tabs are all broken andthree of the four bolts on the firewall are not just connected to the dash. And I knew that my dash was always squeaky.

Now the question is how to fix that. I saw two write ups on Matthews site:

http://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/for...ic.php?t=15115

AND

http://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/for...=a&start=0

Is it better to fixed it (somehow), replace it (if possible) or leave it alone? Do you guys have any idea? If you have other fixes in your mind for a squeaky dash, let me know. Thanks.

I always fix mine but a little different than that. See this post for pics of how I do mine. Look at either the last page or second to last.

I did this on my '93 850 and it's intimidating, but just work through the instructions... I used jbweld, short selftapping screws and plumber strap (strip of relatively soft steel with holes) to reinforce the mounts. As you take the dash apart, don't lose any hunks of plastic from the mounts, you'll need to to rebuild the mounts.

It's a pain, but it made all the difference in the word as far as squeaks and rattles.

Do you have any pictures? Where did you use jb weld? To connect which parts?

Is there anybody that tried to connect/bond the dash to the metal body by using either an adhesive or silicon??

It doesn't really fit up tight enough for that to work - particularly without the old mounts or with the old mounts broken. The hardest part is getting the dash out - actually repairing the mounts is fairly easy once the dash is out. You just need to be patient to let the epoxy set.

I have greatly diminished - nearly eliminated - squeaks since I repaired mine so I can vouch for repair number 1. Now if only I could find the rattle in the headliner on acceleration and hard turns. I think it may be something flopping around in the center light console.

I finally closed my dash and now I have no squeeks. What I did was I took out the two remaining of the four bolts that holds the dash from the engine side. I was having a lot of noise and squeeks when I was driving bumpy roads. Apperently those two bolts were connected nowhere since the plastic dash mounts were all broken already. Without those, I am so happy now.

Just let you now.
