Dead Volvo -Any help?

1995 Volvo 850t Wagon - 195,000k miles.

Driving to work today, no previous issues, oil light came on, and car started running really rough, almost dying and engine had a loud chirp coming from it. Pulled into a gas station and added 3 quarts, quieted the chirping a little, but still running really rough, almost like it was out of gas. Headed back home and totally shut down a block later and wouldn't even try and restart once I pulled over. The oil isn't leaking, it's running out the bottom. Haven't pinpointed where it's coming out of, but any idication as to what's going on anyone?

Thanks.

It sounds like you lost oil pressure and might have thrown a rod... sadly..

If oil is pouring out you might have a hole in your oil pan.. did you get a chance to get under it?

Anytime you are running low on oil you should NOT drive the car, especially if it's leaking faster than you can pour it in.

Why do you say it's not leaking oil but you say it's running out the bottom. That is a massive oil leak. Chances are, if the car is turbo, the oil cooler line or something like that came loose. Driving a car with no oil in it will blow/lock up the motor.

It looks like the oil cooler line come undone. Now the question is, did it shut off cause it seized or do they have a safety shut off?

Here is the line that came undone. Filled it with oil, plugged it back in and the starter just clicks. Guessing that means the engine is seized up? After trying it 3-4 times the starter is no longer clicking either.

There is no "safety shut off". The warning light for low oil pressure is supposed to inform you that you have no (or critically low) oil pressure and you should pull over and shut off the engine immediately or you will be in the position you are presently in.

When you added the three quarts, was it because it was off the dipstick and you needed to so it would be in the add to full range ?? Had you needed to add three at any time before ??

Sadly it's almost a certainty that your engine is damaged almost past repair. You could pay to have it rebuilt but you are more likely at the point where you'll have to make a choice between a good used engine or another car.:(

You don't have a location in your profile. If you choose another car as your option you might be able to part yours out and prolong the life of others by your generous gift, where are you located ??

Did you try turning the crank shaft manually? I wouldn't be optimistic, but thats where I would start.

^^^ This...

Chances are she is gone but... its worth a shot

Where are you located BTW? Id love to tear your motor down..

If your planning to junk it... part it out first.. Youll get a lot more parting it, especially if the interior and body are good..

Its a 1995 850T. Black interior, blue exterior. I haven't quite decided if I am going to part ways with this one or try and find a good used engine. My dad is a manager at a chain auto repair store so I get really cheap shop time, might go that route, but if not, I will give you guys first shot at the part out.

I am in Tacoma, WA. Attached a photo that I took the night before the engine blew up. Just had it detailed too. Gr. :-/

Interior is in pretty good condition as well.
