Default Driver's window goes thunk!

96 850 Platinum wagon; driver's window goes up and down just fine, proper speed, etc. When it goes all the way down, however, it makes a loud thunk, like it's bottoming out in the body of the door. Took the trim off but didn't see anything obvious; wasn't up for digging any deeper until I had more time. Is there a rubber stop or something that may have come off? It looked pretty identical to the passenger side.

My passenger side window has just started this about a week ago. Goes up and down fine but about 1" from the bottom theres a "thunk" like it hit something. I haven't had the chance to remove the trim to see whats up, but it almost sounds like its hitting a rod or something. You get it like that too?

Yes, it sounds like it's running into something, quite hard it seems. I'm afraid the window may break over time, but it may just sound bad. Won't know until I open it up, I guess. It does go down all the way though, it doesn't seem to stop short or overshoot.

time to pull off the door card and have a look see. A while back my mom's 240 had this problem and it turned out that the bolts holding the window regulator loosened and the thump was the window hitting the stop and shifting. I tighened the bolts and that was it...

The regulators can wear on the slot rails or have the plastic roller crack which then causes the window to shift while moving (thump?) You can google "850 window regulator" for a few write ups on what to look for and you can find replacement rails and rollers at FCPEURO and other parts sites. The rollers are cheap ($5 for a pair), rails are $25 and the full regulator goes for $200. Check out this thread on Matthews
