Check for leaks. Could be a headgasket going as well. Any signs on coolant in the oil or vise versa?

Obviously you checked all your cooling & heater hoses and looked for puddling of coolant under the car to determine location on engine that is leaking? You didn't mention if it was an 850turbo or not? The turbo model has a coolant pipe with 4 nipples that runs along the length of the rear side of the engine. I had a corroded nipple off that pipe that developed a hairline crack at the weld. It only lost coolant under pressure and wouldn't show itself until I lowered the coolant level and ran the vehicle local near my shop til I got it to near redline overheating. Then when I shut the car off the steam was slowly hissing out of the hailine crack. It is a Volvo only part and retails for $160.00 at my dealer anyway. It is also one huge pain in the *** to remove and replace.
Also do you notice any coolant smell inside the passenger compartment when you turn the heater on? This would indicate either a bad heater core or perhaps the heater hose coupling in the firewall which is made of palstic just overcooked and cracked with age. I had both problems and so wound up replacing core as well since it had to be removed to get the hose coupling out. FCP has all the right parts for this part of the project.

it is not a turbo its a 96 GLT not leaking any coolant under the car as far as i can see. occasionally ill get a wiff of coolant smell in the cab but rarely although my heater sometimes blows cool on the passenger side. no coolant in the oil i just fixed a blown head gasket on it like 6 months ago so do you think it may be the heater core?

Well if you are able to "smell" it (coolant aroma i am assuming) inside the auto..........then I would check your carpets to check for dampness as it appears that your heater core may well be cracked and leaking.
