Default ECU related question.

Hey guys

around the black ECU box, theres that metal strapping that seems to be bolted on 1 with a round head and the other square.. is there a trick to getting that off. Or do i just grab my Drill and drill it out?

My friend has a v70 T5 manual ECU (motronic 4.4) and a 16T which i want to buy. My car being 97 AWD people believe that my car may also have 4.4 which is what i want to check.
if my car is 4.4 it will work perfectly right?

I understand that the 16T will bolt right on also..

Thanks
-Matt

I don't know what in the AC is different between the 850s and X70 and if it's computer related or not. But x70 ECUs will work in 850s, however, it will fry your AC. And the ecu box just pops off, I don't know what your looking at the would require any drilling. It's just three metal tabs that hold it in place similar to the intake box.

if you look at my ECU box there is metal strapping over it.. those arent regular bolts holding it down either..

if my car really is 4.4 would it still fry the AC you think?

That's why I said I don't know. I don't know if it's AC related or ECU related. But everything I have read is that an x70 ecu in an 850 will fry the AC.

And I have no idea about that strap, mine doesn't have that. I would make sure that that strap is not the only thing holding the ECU cover on, and if it isn't, just cut if off.

Yeah, that's not a factory bracket. Grip it 'n rip it - but only when you understand what it's really doing! I'd hate to think that your drill bit would punch through one of the computer cards in there.

UPDATE.. now i have a real ECU related question.. im confused as to what kind of ECU i can use.
My cars 4.4 so can i use any 4.4 ECU in my car? what do the serial numbers on the side mean..

id like to buy a T5M ECU, but have no idea if it will work or not..
i was going to try my friends 4.4 auto ECU in my car tonight, but i was scared that i would hurt something. is there a way to damage anything by putting in the wrong 4.4 ECU?

Thanks
