Default Electrical Gremlin?

Well, now thw ECC Blower Motor won't work, and the horn is intermittent, and the arrow on the dash blinks from time to time. I have replaced the ignition switch. Can the key tumbler be causing my problems? Periodicallthe key will not insert into the tumbler. Seems like it has some kind of spring mechanism on the inside of the tumbler that gets stuck. Lots of banging and force and it finally goes in.

Any thoughts?

Also the door chime rings whenever the driver door is opened, not just when the key is in the ignition.

The door chime is tied to the tumbler. Have you tried lube yet.

I think the other things might be different problems.

Does the ECC lights flash?

The horn might be a bad connection at the steering wheel. Or a bad SRS contact reel.

The trans arrow flashing means a code in the system.

Tech,

I used WD40 on the tumbler. It works ok now but the door still chimes. This is the second time that the tumbler has jammed. The ECC lights are currently out. The arrow has not come on in a while. Codes are 1-1-1.

The chime is controlled by the little rod at the back of the ignition switch (tumbler).
If you unscrew the electrical part of the ignition switch and look at it. In the center will be a little round rod. When it is pushed in the chime works.

Is there a fuse or something that I am missing with the Blower Motor? This motor was replaced last june when we bought the car. I can't believe it is shot already.

Thanks,

Joe

If you have ECC I don't think there is a fuse. Check for power at the blower motor.

Well, Here we go again. The car was driven to the store and parked. Upon returning to the car the engine won't start. Turns over VERY SLOWLY. Replaced the battery with a new one, put a new terminal on the battery end of the positive cable. No improvement. Won't turn fast enough to start. Put it in neutral, pushed it to the parking lot by my daughter's dorm and left it till the weather gets a little warmer.

But, I need to get it fixed. Starter? Cables? I'm at a loss. If it is the starter, how hard is it to r&r?

Any help appreciated.

Thanks,

Joe

You need to see how much Voltage is at the battery.
I have a feeling the starter is binding up when the car gets hot.

It will take a little work to get to it and loosen the bolts and slide it out.

It will take atleast a couple of hours to get it done.

Tech,

I don't tink its binding due to heat. We let it sit overnight in25 degree weather and it was the same in the morning. Still turning over slow as molasses.

Still might be the starter. Somehow you need to see how many Amps it is pulling when you try to start it.

im not sure about your area, but when i have had this type of problem in the past, i visit the local parts store. there are 2 here in town, Autozone, and O'Reilly, that both do free battery, alternator, and starter diagnostics. if you get the starter out, scout around the stores in your area, maybe there will be one or two that can test the starter for you. they should be able to tell you how much the starter pulls, and if its in a target area.
