Ok, a while back, my 850 turbo wagon with automatic transmission began to have intermittent starting problems. It would turn over, but would not fire. Looking at the coil, it seemed to have power, but was not putting anything out. Then after a couple times turning it over, it would start. Sometimes just posititioning the gear selector in neutral or back to park and it would start right up. Then one time it took a really long time before it would start. Had to brave it one day going to work as my wife had to use the other car, and to this point it had driven without fault, but on this morning it left me stranded some miles away from the house (died going down the street). I had noticed as I left the house (it was cold that morning) that it shifted late from first to second the first time. When it died, a lot of the dashboard lights were on and the yellow up arrow was flashing (I believe that's something to do with the transmission). Tried to restart and it would turn over as usual in park, but this time when I moved it to neutral, it would not turn over at all, but moving it back to park, it would turn over (just no spark). After towing it home, I found that it now will not turn over in park either (battery is fine and it's nothing to do with the starter).

What the heck???

I really need some help. I could not get any codes out of it when I tried either, and I have done this before with success, so....I don't know what is up there. I took the computers out and looked for any visible signs of the circuits being burnt or oozing or anything like that, but they "look" fine.

Anyone else ever experience this or know what the problem may be? Thanks for any help!

 

The PNP switch would be my guess (PNP=Park Nuetral Position sensor)
Im not 100% sure if it would make it stall but it will stop it from turning over.

What year is it?
What happened when you tried pulling codes?
