exhaust
I have a 96 850 glt and want to put in a heico exhaust system into in, i know its mean't for vehicles with turbos. i am planning to turbo it sometime in the future when i get more money but i was wondering if it will still work on the car for several months without a turbo?
shav: dont bother turboing your car. it is not as smiple as just bolting on a turbo and calling it a day. To run a turbo properly, you're gonna need the turbo, downpipe, ECU, different pistons, different injectors....you'd be better off just selling your car and buying one that came as a turbo.
twice the time and 4x the money. it wont be hard at ALL for you to have 3-4 grand grand wrapped up in doing it by the time you have it running. Nobody is saying that it can't be done, but I can't see why someone would want to go through all that when you can get a decent running 850 turbo all day for under 2 grand.
@ Shavman4 listen to the advice that has been given.
I realize your in automotive school and do the labor yourself. Which trust me is a big plus and will save you a lot of money with the project.
However your going to be putting more money into the mods then the car is worth. Also your not going to get the gains like you would if you were modding an already turbocharged model.
I agree that you should sell the N/A and purchase a turboed model and then mod from there. Many more options to go with. I also agree with that your going to be putting about $4k-$5k into mods if you decide to turbo your N/A. Possibly more. How are you planning on tuning your ECU? I wouldn't just slap a turbo model ECU in your car and go. Your going to have to dyno tune which is $$$$$.
