Exhaust Flex Pipe
I have a 1996 850 wagon, my mechanic tells me the flex pipe comming from the exhaust manifold is split. He says I can only get the part from a volvo dealer I called 2 dealers one gave me an estimate of $580 for the exhaust manifold and flex pipe the other wants to charge me over $1000.00 saying I need to buy from the catalytic converter forward. Am I confusing the parts man can someone help me. Is there an aftermarket alternative and what exactly is the part I need ..Please help
whats the part number or exhaust part do you know? There are a number of manifolds for that car online.. you maybe looking at close to you price estimate though as the anifold is not a cheap part as i have been finding out.
I believe its part number: 1996 850 2.4L (B5254FS) Wagon Volvo
with EGR only I found the part on www.eeuroparts.com. Thanks for all your help. My 1996 wagon has 218,000 and still going strong but for now very loud

I'm not 100% sure what you're looking for, but FCP Groton has an exhaust manafold kit and catalitic converter with forward pipe.
Cat Converter/Front Pipe Assembly: http://www.fcpgroton.com/volvo850exhaust.htm
Manafold kit: http://www.fcpgroton.com/csv70/volvo850sv70manifold.htm
If those aren't it, I'd give them a call and tell them what you need as they should be able to get it for you. They're a good bunch of eggs and are very willing to help.

I realized that you have a non-turbed engine, still I would find an exhaust shop to build my own custom exhaust. You can buy various sizes of flex-pipe at NAPA -- also available on the internet.
Slater at QuickBricks may have the flanges to get you started on the downpipe.

The Flo-Pro muffler has proven itself to beat the competition with a louvered pipe design, which accelerates the exhaust flow through the muffler. The louvers also give you a deep performance sound without the use of fiberglass that eventually blows out. The Flo-Pro mufflers are also designed to boost the horsepower generated from your vehicle.
