Fan belt question
Whats up Guys,
I have to replace my fan belt. I would like to know if I have to buy the OEM or I can get an aftermaket one.
Another thing, my oil light stays on for about a second when I start the car, is this normal or is it something I should look into immediately.
Thanks for the help
Riculus

RE: Fan belt question
I bought the OEM belt, but not sure it's necessary. There are two different size belts and either will fit, but you need to route them differently. Just something to watch out for. My oil light stays on for about a second also on the 97 850 R. I don't think it's anything to worry about, but somebody might tell us differently.

RE: Fan belt question
Hi Riculus,
Greetings from Yokohama.
As for the accessory drive belt, I would definitely go with OEM (Continental Tech). Other brands' belts are noted for squeal. Also, I would go with the longer belt, it gives you more contact with the alternator pulley, and Volvos are highly sensitive to power requirements.
As for the oil lamp, some cars seem to stay on longer. If it bothers you and if your 850 is non-turbo, try switching to 5W-30. But I believe it's nothing to be concerned of.
Good luck,
JPN
