FRAM filter causes lifter tick
Like so many other aging Volvo owners, I began to hear that lifter ticking after starting. I thought it might be from the oil pump O ring problem, common to these cars. I didnt notice any bubbles on the dipstick though. Coincidently, I ran across some article about FRAM oil filters tendency to leak back oil when the engine is off thus causing dry starts and noisy lifters. I went to a dealer and bought an OEM filter for $12.00!! The OEM filter felt heavier than the FRAM. I installed the OEMers and guess what? No lifter ticking. Before you do the oil pan O ring job, make sure you try an OEM filter first. It might save you a lot of mess and time.
I have heard nothing but bad stuff about FRAM crap. I have a BMW 328i, I bought a FRAM filter and the cartridge didnt fit due to poor quality control from whatever factory it came from in China.

I was pretty skeptical at first but I've seen too many people all saying the same thing about the Frams and on a variety of different car maker sites. I guess their quality really has gone down the tubes.
Their internal motto is "Pay us now and we laugh in your general direction.."
They've always been crap IMO; this is what you want below; only $4.50 each when you buy 10X at a time.
