Default Fuel pump issues

we figured out that the reason my car wasnt starting was the fuel pump. we pulled it out cleaned it out and put it back in. when we had it in at first it was just finger tight and the car started and ran great. when we tightened everything down the fuel pump stoped working again and my car wont start. i was told the it could be a short but we just looked at it again and all the wires looked good. i also heard that it could be water in the tank itself. what could cause the pump to do this?

well i just read your other post.i dont know why you would post the same question in two different threads.i see it is not the original pump did you get this pump from the salvage yard?.that might be bad as well.

Default Fuel Loss/Fuel Odor Issue - I Suspect EVAP System

After a full tank of gas and driving just about 10/12 miles, the needle on the fuel gauge is already 2/3 away mm from the full mark. Additionally, I frequently smell gas when the car stops at lights, etc.

I suspect the EVAP system or the connections to the EVAP system. I checked the fuel lines/and the rails. Did not notice any leak.

Can someone post a block daigram of the EVAP system? My vehicle is a 1996, Volvo 850 Turbo.

Thanks in advance.

The most common froblem related to fuel pump on these cars is fuel pump relay. It starts acting after it gets old and replacing it can fix your problem.

Do I have to drop the fuel tank to have access to the fuel pump?
And where is the fuel pump relay? Is fuel injector relay same as fuel pump relay and where is it? Finally, how do I verify if my fuel pump, fuel pump relay and fuel injector relay is functional?

I cannot get my Volvo started and any of your troubleshooting advice would be greatly appreciated! It's been sitting in my garage for the past 4 months or so and I'd love to get it running again soon.

Thanks!

Default ez access

in the 850 in the trunk or wagon if u lift up the carpet and see ur spare there should be a plate with 5 nuts on it. undo those and lift the plate and there is the fuel pump access. mine just died the other day and its a common issue with these cars but there worth it.
