anyone know the differences between a gray and a green coolant bottle expansion cap?

Gray was the original cap which failed frequently. The green one is the new style cap.

But funny, on my 850 the grey cap performed better, and as soon as I switched to the green cap, the expansion tank thingy started to overflow

. I guess it was an exception, and yes the green is the revised, improved cap as the 2 gentlemen above have stated.
