Default help.

ok so i was on my way to my brothers wedding and my 1996 volvo 850 glt just died. after the wedding i went back and checked to see if the fuel pump went out by checking pressure on the fuel rail and that was fine but i tried to get the spark plug wires to jump from a screwdriver to the block and there was nothing. anybody have any suggestions on what it is? i think it may be the ignition coil.

Check the plug for the cam sensor.
You also need to check for injector pulse.

Well see if you can find a noid light to borrow to check the injector pulse.

The cam sensor is on the back of the head. The intake cam has the dist. cap on the back of it. The exhaust cam has the sensor on it. Follow the wire from the sensor to the plug. See if the plug fell apart and came unplugged.

You need to find a noid light and plug it into one of the injector plugs. Then crank the car over and watch for the light to flash.

I doubt it is the coil. I have yet to see a 850 coil fail.

No the top cover on the rail just comes off. Pull on it towards the front if the car then remove it. Unplug one of the injectors and put the light in and you are ready to test.
