Default help with starter

Our 93 850 GLT sedan will not start so I want to replace the starter.... anyone know of a how to to replace it? Also I went to get prices on starters and I was told there's specific ones for certain 850s based on vin? How do I know which starter is the right one....

Did you test for power at the small wire in the starter when the key is in the crank position?

Easiest way to get to the starter is to remove the cooling fan then work. I never remove it on Non-turbo models.

One is for California Emissions and the other for Federal Emissions:

CA Ver.:
http://www.fcpgroton.com/product-exe...ategory_id/111

Fed Ver.:

I would go with Bosch.

Service Instruction:

Remove the old unit & install the new unit...[8D].

I believe other members would reply to you with the procedures.

JPN gave you some good links. I would go with buying it from either FCP Groton, AutohausAZ, or possibly IPD

May be you could call a dealer with your VIN# and ask them?

I never had to replace my starter and the factory manual does not have procedures. The best you can do is to look at the location and see what tools would most work effectively. I assume an extension & universal joint would help reach the starter. I distantly remember that it was installed right under the IAC, behind the intake manifold? See attached; not sure whose pic the 1st one is, but the 2nd is a courtesy of Robrike.
