hi guys
i have a 850 1995 wagon automatic
when i start the car and drive it its smooth and quit but when u stop or just slow down towards a full stop this annoying loud rattle appears, if i hit the gas a it stops , any ideas? it sounds like its coming from the central/ left passenger side .

Sounds like it might be a heat shield. Could also be something related to a bad motor mount where the engine is getting too close to something.

 

Could also be a loose baffle in exhaust muffler / cat convertor.
Lower engine rev's mean less exhaust pressure so anything loose may rattle about?
Get someone to rev' engine in neutral/park whilst you crawl under and listen for source.

its defently coming from the cat convertor area , is thier any thing i cand do or its just a matter of replacing the lot?

 

Sadly I think it might need to be replaced.
i am not aware of any simple way to fix loose baffling inside as they are an enclosed unit once fabricated.
Maybe someone else knows of an alternative fix?

 

i know of someone who cut a cat open, cleared it out and simply welded it back up like it was NEVER opened

 

Nad, where are you located and do they have an emissions inspection ??
