When I step on the gas my Volvo seems to be making a hissing sound coming from the engine. Anyone have a clue if this is normal?

Is yours a turbo model?

 

I don't think it's the actual turbo model, but there is an option for, "winter" "Sport" and "Economy" driving. All I do is push the button.

 

You would know if it was a turbo model.

 

if I would know then it's not the turbo model. Any idea what the hissing could be?

 

If the sound goes away after the engine warms up then ignore the sound because no one can give you a clear answer.

 

You might be hearing the Air pump.

 

I have a 60 day bumber to bumper warnty so I will ask them to check it out Monday. Overall an excellent vechile !! I love how the car show the rpm's really cool stuff

Nope, I do not have a turbo boys and gals, but I did find out a few things regarding the vehicle.
One it's been in a rear-ender, front wheel drive so that’s not too bad. Body was restored and looks original.

Minor issues so far such as, Interior automated door locking button works only frequenty

I think the transmission is off a little, I think this cause I believe the car is switching gears to early sometimes but never late. She revs nice 90% of the time, seems to happen when I'm going at a slow acceleration. Ha, mainly in city driving hitting lots of lights. Seems the engine even revs a little high and low when I'm stopped at a red light. Almost like there is a build up of pressure!
I'm also thinking that this Engine hissing and, revving problem could be a manifold issue. Might be rusted or even have a leak? I'm going to have this looked at Tuesday Morning seeing its thanksgiving weekend, nothings open Monday.

Underneath the front end of the Volvo 850, there’s a little plastic guard that runs right to left protecting the engine from dirt and debris, this plastic piece has cracked, I will be getting a new one.


I guess thats what you get for 3000 bucks huh
