This may be of some ref:

https://volvoforums.com/forum/volvo-850-16/timing-belt-1995-turbo-28549/

If you've done the job on Toyota & Honda (I've done my '88 Accord LX-i and it was a PITA), the basics are pretty much the same, except the 850 uses unique belt tensioner set-up. A Haynes Manual comes in handy on this job.

The timing marks on the camshafts are hairline-narrow and many people highlight them with correction fluid, etc... The timing mark on the crankshaft is even worse, except my 850 had a large botch that no one else seems to have. This could have been added by the previous owner.

Allow enough time and do not rush. Turn the crank by hand for 3-5 revs upon completion of the job as suggested by Psaboic. I would also replace the pulleys & tensioner. The water pump may be deferred as genuine Volvo pump seems indestructible (except mine had a seepage so I replaced it with high-quality non-OEM called HEPU-German but next time I would go with genuine Volvo).

Like JPN says, if you have done a Honda, you can do a Volvo. Follow the instructions in the link he provided and you should be fine. I have also found useful information on matthewsvolvosite.com, and also Bay 13.

Let us know if you run into any snags

Our pleasure; come back any time if you have questions/doubts. If you're unsure about something, I wouldn't proceed and seek assistance.

I wish I could have done mine myself. I spent $750 parts and labor just 6 months ago.

But now that you are a member here, you'll be doing 70% (or more if you like) of the maintenance by yourself and will be saving hundreds of dollars. I don't think the $750 was a waste at all; imagine a neglected belt & the catastrophe.

You'll be surprised how much you can learn at this forum. One of the moderators didn't even know how to reset a service reminder light and after about a year he was good enough to beat a mundane mechanic.
