Hey, I have a 1993 850 GLT with auto temp. The buttons on the dash don't match what's in the manual and are somewhat confusing. See the attached picture please. The buttons on the bottom right say "REC" and "AC" but above the "AC" button it says "OFF" and "AUTO" The manual shows the button needs to be in the "OFF" position to get max ac but that can't be correct. Can someone please tell me how to set the controls to get the ac going... To answer the obvious questions - the system is currently out of freon so I can't tell if it's cooling or not.

 

Ok. In order for the AC to turn ON, don't have the AC switch in the "OFF" position, like in your picture, put it on "AUT". The AC won't run if the switch is "OFF" . Additionally, don't have the fan switched to "OFF", put it on "AUT" or any other setting.

I think your confusion with the Owner's Manual arises because you were looking at the Manual Climate Control section, but you have the Automatic Climate Control, which has a different layout. For the Manual Climate Control, the left position and illuminated light indicates system is "ON", the right position is "OFF". On your Automatic Climate Control, the left position and illuminated light indicates "OFF", but the right position is "AUT", which means the AC is on.

Also, the system AC system and compressor will NOT engage (no matter what the settings are) if you have low or no freon, so I suggest you put freon in your system if you want to test your AC's functionality.
