Exclamation inner cv joint need help please ( updated )

i'm working on a 95 850 GLT 2.4 non turbo.
during the process of shocks replacement, the inner boot came off the joint on the passenger side. i can slide it back on with a new band BUT. there is a metal "C" looking thing fell out and i can't figure out how or where to put it back before i put the boot back in place?!?! thanks in advance

i got the new axle in but the splines isn't seated all the way on the wheel hub. can i just start tightening the nut and it'll pull it in ??

There is a clip that holds the shaft into the CV cage.

Will the shaft pull out of the joint ??

Was it not inside the cup? If it was, it would hold the joint "together" before it was assembled into the car, while that shaft was still an auto part. But an inside ring there wouldn't be strong enough to resist much force.

I don't know if it was inside the cup, i doubt it tho. it almost looks like some kind of a retainer but i don't see how it suppose to prevent the shaft from sliding outside the cup? i looked at a bunch of diagrams and researched nothing looks like it.
i just don't want to replace a good oem axle for this stupid thing. appreciate all your help guys

No problem, just poking you in case you forgot. Sorry you had to get a shaft but it's nice as it's likely lifetime so if you lose a boot in the future you can swap it out and just be out a couple hours of your time but no more $$$.

It would be best to clean out the splines in the hub assembly so the shaft slides in as the nut should be accurately torqued down.

ALSO, I usually put anti seize compound on the splines to avoid them trying to rust in place. Not on the threads.

Yes you can. But Volvo has a "different" procedure for checking fluid level.

SERVICE INTERVAL
Check fluid level every 10,000 miles.
CHECKING FLUID LEVEL
1) Ensure vehicle is level. Apply parking brake and gear
selector lever to "P" position. Start and idle engine. Move gear
selector lever through all gears, while pausing 4-5 seconds for
engagement at each position.
2) Return gear selector lever to "P" position. Wait 2 minutes
and check fluid level with engine idling. Level should be between MIN
and MAX marks.

You can take the easy way and just put it up on stands and pull the drain plug from the transmission and do a drain and fill.
