Installed my HIDs... (56k..Go take a nap)
So as some of you might know, I just went on vacation in China and I picked up an HID kit.
Here are the pics.
My ugly hole because I used a 1/4 bit instead of a 1inch right off the bat. Also, I used the wrong bit, I used a spade bit instead of a hole bit which made the job harder and longer. I'm going to have to fix this hole up a little again though...

One HID installed

The good hole w/ a 1inch bit.

Before

After

High beams and HID (Gives you a good impression of how the old headlights were)

Still haven't gone out with them, but I'm going to be playing with these as I go try to get a glimpse of this meteor shower tonight!! Everyone start looking to the skies. It's going on now and it'll peak around midnight..

On the driver's side, between the battery and fender (I have a small battery for some reason), and on the other side, there is a metal thing that comes off of the ECU. That's the coolest (cold) place I could find...
^From what I've heard, E-Code lenses would be even worse to blind others??
E-codes are for driving on the autobahn, so supposedly, they go something like 75 feet or so I've heard...A lot of people get in trouble from other drivers because others think they're flashing the e-coders are flashing their highs...
Seems like mixed with HIDs, it'd be really bad??

I got my kit from a factory showstore in China. This kit is made by CNlight a company/factory that makes all kinds of light applications. The kit is made entirely by them, and they have a patent on the bulbs and ballast. They are the only HID manufacturer in China that is publically traded.
At the moment, I'm kind of gathering info from the company to set up a potential GB, that is, if there is enough interest in these kits.
But if you're looking into a kit right now. SharpHid.com or XenonDepots.com. Sharp's kit is slightly more expensive w/ a lifetime warranty instead of 1 year and the seller is in the US. Both kits are the same brand though (ApexCone).

I know that a few people on Volvospeed have E-codes and HID's and have no problems. I also know a few people have the Jewels and HID's no problems.
I'll take some pics and see if you guys can tell if there is much glare. Glare is my #1 concern, and before I installed these guys, I made sure my headlights were alligned correctly (but I guess you can't adjust them left/right??).
Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems like the only way to completely eliminate glare would be projector retrofit(?)...But #1 is to make sure the headlights are aimed correctly.
But Jewels look really good (saw some on a V70 in person), and the E-codes sound pretty cool w/ the increased range of sight. Only problem is, that they're pretty expensive...
But it's weird...My buddies MazdaSpeed Protege has Bi-xenons and he's lighting up the entire road (You can see all the signs illuminate/reflect when he drives by). I did a small test drive last night, and mine seem to be just like the old headlights and shooting on the ground (But I can see a little further (maybe 10-15 feet)). White light looks really good though.

It's the same kit lol. Really, you're just paying for warranty and a seller that is close to home. My friend got a kit from MyDepots in China, and it's ApexCone too.
I don't doubt you. But there are some guys w/ the regular lenses and they say it's fine too. lol.

E-codes can be had from FCP Groton for like $65 per headlight lens and like $35 per turn signal. I spent like $220 for my E-codes on my s70 when I had them and the 850's might be a little less.
^Yeah, that's really expensive...
Although....There is someone locally selling a set for 75 or so... Still expensive, but a lot cheaper than what you paid..
How do you adjust right and left? Through my searching, I learned that there was a law made so that owners cannot adjust their headlights left and right. I know Volvo's solution was to put some epoxy somewhere so that you can't adjust them..But all I've done is to put the bubble in the middle of the level...
And my buddy doesn't have projectors. Just the stock housing. But they shoot really high (He's hitting stop signs from maybe 50 feet away)... They seem almost like highs...Perhaps he needs to adjust his lights?
Btw, I looked at your site. I like that headlight setup alot.

$220 is cheap compared to what my projector setup cost. Not to mention what a projector retrofit would cost you.
Your lenes would be $60 per headlight and $25 per turn signal plus shipping. That is for the E-codes.
And you adjust left and right with the adjustment **** on top of the housing. I do believe that is how it is done.
^I saw that ****, and thought it controled the level. Man was I wrong..I ended up rounding both *****.
But there definitely is some epoxy in there, because I spun one **** at least 20 times, and last night against a wall, it didn't look like it was really far to the left/right. Did you adjust your headlights w/ that ****? Because if you could do it...Maybe i'm wrong...

When somebody with these bright headlights that blind the oncoming traffic come towards me on a dark two lane roadand I can't see so I cross the median and we hit head on whose fault is it? I absolutely hate these extremely bright head lights. I do like the looks of them when sitting in a parking lot and turned off though. Just my $.02.
