Just had an idea..
 

Saw a couple pictures of some black 850's similar to mine where the owner had painted the trim all black to match the car, I think it looks pretty cool, sets it apart from the rest. Has anyone ever painted their trim or is that something that I could do myself? I figured cleaning it really good, wet sanding it, cleaning it again, primer, paint, clear coat. Is that all that I would need to do?

Yeah, I saw that for sale. Nice car. Maybe I'll do that, I like the look of the black on black combination, obviously not the flat black part since my car is already glossy. haha. Is the side molding pretty easy to take off?

you can dye it black. that would be easier that painting.
Adub used a heat gun to make plastic balck.
I will dye mine with that forever black stuff when I get around to it.

Not sure about taking the trim off. never done it. probably snaps and tape.

Guy needs a spoiler. In my opinion the spoilers look real nice.

A little too much black for sure. The turn signals look spray painted. I would not black out an 850. Maybe a Corvette, not an 850.

I have done my trim. It is all snap off (sides and top)

Does that forever black stuff dye it black or just a darker gray?

Pretty close to black. No where as close as black paint will get you though.

My trim above the doors is already chipping but my trim scross the doors is a really deep spray-painted black.

I used spray paint for vinyl because that trim is made out of some material that can flex and it has stuck like a charm for a year and counting. Just clean the side trim and spray. You can't really sand something that is like rubber.

Yeah, I have to repaint those trim pieces on the my roof, I think have painted those at least twice. Is there a special paint for the trim? And if I painted the bumpers, do you think I should take them off, or just tape off the car really good, and by that I mean tape and lots of paper covering the surrounding area.

Personally to me, that kind of looks like he only got around to waxing part of the hood.

Check out my post in the Exterior section under Recent 850 Upgrades. I have pictures of my sons 850. We used KIWI shoe dye on the door trim pieces (2 coats) and they have held up well. I used it on his bumpers but ended up painting them with bumper paint. Also taped off the edge and the emblem of the grill and painted the rest of it with Krylon gloss black for plastic. You wont really need to sand the bumper, just clean it good. Ditto for the door trim. We also painted his calipers red like on the picture you posted. Good luck and post some pictures if you decide to black her out.

I just taped and newspapered the bumpers and painted them on the car. Not to big of a deal at all.

haha, i was just gonna say that I found it. It looks good, however, the trim is still a little gray for me in those pics. I want them to be black, color match the rest of the car, all black on black.

on a note, the door trims dont snap off. There is a small screw under a cap in door jam and then they slide toward the front off the car and come off. The small front trims snap off though. (be careful not to bend)

I painted my trim but have yet to do bumpers, was going to use the dye stuff but label said it will eventually fade away.

I plan to paint the bumpers when I get a nice sunny day. I used Krylon Plastic Fusion Black on the side trims and spoiler and have yet to have any issues.

Are they a nice glossy black once finished?

Yes, i forgot to mention I used clear coat too.

I think I did 2 or 3 coats of black and 2 of the clear coat.

Nice. Did you just clean them really good, or did you take a real fine grit sandpaper and sand them a little bit? Did you use a primer or anything?

all i did was cleaned them and lightly sanded so as not to rough it up too much to cause scratches since it is a rubbery material. No primer, just the black.

As an idea, you can always go to a junk yard and grab a piece to practice on. One of mine was scratched from being slightly side swiped so i got a better one from a junk yard and used the old to test.

The main reason why I painted was because the new ones were faded differently and I couldnt find a car with a complete set. Overall I am pleased.
