K&N Filter or Air Intake?

K&N Filter or Air Intake?
I have a 97 850 T-5 with 136k. It seems that K&N is the air intake of choice, but they don't make the intake for my car, just the drop in filter for a promised increase of 5% (11) HP. Is there another brand of intake or is the K&N the best/easiest way to go? It definitely looks like the cheapest at $38 plus free shipping at this website:

I've heard that the first step in increasing performance is helping the car to breathe, so I'm thinking the next step is upgrading the exhaust when it goes out. That should about do it without getting into megabucks, shouldn't it? Not really interested in chipping it.
Thanks for the help.

under 850, then performance, then engine. Its expensive, but this IS the alternative. I should be recieving mine very very soon!
you can find one at Ebay under "850 sport intake", This is where i ordered mine. hope everything goes well
