Keyless Entry
Is there any way of finding out if my '95 850 GLE has keyless entry? Bought used and it has virtually every option on it but no obvoius way of locking/unlocking the door other than using the key (aka no button on the inside to unlock/lock). Shot in the dark whether it had it originally and the units have just been lost. With some other brands, you could use the VIN to find out I thought.
I think all of those models came with keyless entry. the easiest option is to arrange a remote from any car of the same year and try to program it. The procedure is very simple and takes less then a minute. You might want to just borrow someones remote for testing as long as the car is of the same year - and obviously we are talking about volvo 850. My guess is that remotes were same from 94 to early 96. 97 ones look similar but are different internally and cannot be programed to these ones.
Another way to just check if it has the keyless entry would be to try the programing procedure without any remote but if you see the RED led on the dash blinking (learning mode) during that procedure, then it means that he car came with remotes.

I'm pretty sure all of the 850 GLE's had keyless entry. You can get a GOOD remote and program it. I went to the junk yard and pulled the remote box & remote from a car and simply swapped the remote receiver and it worked fine for me. I have a bad relay and could not program mine. So now I have a spare remote and remote receiver.
You first need to determine if you have a remote locking receiver. It is located on the A pillar next to the glove box and you need to remove the glove box to get to it. Once you locate it you need to jot down the part number and the FCC identifier so that you can correctly match the remote to it. Ignore the big numbers and letters on the stickers and look at the small print on the silk screened label.
This receiver is upside down from the factory mounting.

thanks for that. Assuming I pull the glovebox out and I have a receiving unit, can I just buy the keyring units and reprogram to the existing receiver I have? Easy? Inexpensive?
Very easy;
Key on, key off in quick succession for four times and hit key on on the fifth time. Within 10 seconds press the lock button and hold it until the doors lock.
Programmed.
It must be the proper unit to work, they both look identical but they have different part numbers and FCC identifier codes. The idiots on eBay sell them as universals for '93 to '97 - they are not all the same and they must be the same series.

I was just about to remove the glove box when I saw the horrible sight of torx! Does anyone know what size torx screws it is by chance? I'll have to buy the bit and I don't want to have to get a set. That being said, are there many places where a torx set would come in handy? I noticed its required for a timing belt change.
