Default Light under shifter?

How do I change the light under the shifter? Also what lamp / lamps are in there. How do I change the lights in the seat heater switches and tranny mode switch?

The seat heater switches are easy. Just pop them out and there are small twist out bulbs in them. Idk about the tranny mode switch. You can get led replacements from warden jp (just do a google search), or OE replacements from FCP, IPD.

Never seen those lights out in the tranny mode switch. They are kinda dim. You will likely have to swap out the switch if they are out.

Gear Selector Indication Bulb

It's a sealed assembly and can not be rebuilt. I have tried a few times with no success.

Sorry to be contrary Rspi, yes it can. But I'm not sure it's worth the trouble. I followed these instructions and it came out ok. To me it's more of a challenge and next time I'll be looking at how I can get an LED in there I did this long before I started my interior LED conversion. Didn't have any LEDs laying around when I pulled the console.
I would suggest using silver solder as it melts at a lower temp and allows you more chance of not melting the plastic.

I used the Radio Shack (272-1092) bulbs to fix mine. I used a Dremel tool with a cutoff wheel to nip through the old leads and then soldered the Radio Shack replacement back into the OEM socket.

It is a pain in the butt to thread the new leads in but I hate paying the stealership huge money for a stinking light bulb. The same lamp and socket illuminates the ring around the cigarette lighter.

The Radio Shack bulbs should be under $2.00 for a two pack.

Radio shack's web site for the bulbs.
12V Microlamps (2-Pack) : Microlamps | RadioShack.com

I like a challenge and paying a buck each for the lights compared to seven something last time I looked was a motivator too

Great, thanks.
Do either of you have any idea of the number designation for the engine control unit? Mine has a number of 8.2 and I think this was the higher tuned one but I am not sure.

I have no clue. You might try asking Lucky at ARD. He's the only guy I can think of who might know since he sells the ARD tuned ECMs.

Have you tried asking over on Volvospeed ??

ARD Blue

I'll try that. My ECU has a number 8.2 on it and I can find some paper work from a previous owner that says it was upgraded.

What kind of paperwork did you find, what is the companies name and have you tried to contact them ??

The only thing I know for numbers is that my 95 turbo and earlier are Motronic M4.3 and the better one with more parameters and better control that we can upgrade to is an M4.4 which I think started in 1996.
It isn't plug and play, it's something that needs to be "tuned" to operate correctly and a little rewiring is required from what I've read. There are differences in air injection and EGR wiring, maybe something else. There are also options to delete these and the rear O2.

Advantages of the M4.4 over the 4.3

twice as fast starts...
smoother idle..
better adaptation..
higher resolution maps and faster speed processor
ability to change to TCV
ability to gain OBD2 compliance on manual swapped cars
more precise control of larger injectors

I'll look for the paper work but in the mean time does anyone know what bulb/lamp assembly fits in the various switches below the instruments on my car? I looked a IPD and they show 2 different ones but it is unclear what I need.

Every post I have has those bulbs in my signature. They sell some raw bulbs at Radio Shack that are suppose to work. Not sure if they are the exact brightness or not.

New question about lights. How are the window switches lit? Is there one central bulb or does each switch have a separate bulb? Do I need to take out the center console to access this or do they pop out from the top? The reason I am asking is mine are lit up but very dim so I am thinking something is out.
I replaced the shifter lamp and that took about ten minutes to access but would be a lot faster in the future.
Also how do you replace the bulb in the info switch and the tranny mode switch? I pulled both out but don't see a bulb base anywhere. When I pulled the info switch out the front of it popped off and I could see the tip of a bulb in there but now way to change it.

Don't know of a light that can be changed in the window switch cluster.

The info switch has to be taken apart, drummeled, then you can access the bulb that is like the switch bulbs. I have replaced a few.

No light bulb to change in the performance selector to my knowledge.

I need to go to PnP for some switches to play with. I would imagine new switches would be expensive.
My window switches light up just seems like they should be brighter.

I just went out and turned on the lights now that it is dark outside and the window switches are ok but the one that is bothering me the most is the info switch. rspi where did you dremmel out the light in this switch? Some day I have to look at a list of all the videos you have done, you are a great fountain of knowledge on these cars.

The window switches have LED inside. The LED are special ones with an incorporated resistor so they do not blow when they are provided with 12v.
These LED also light up as soon as the key is in Position I and the power windows can be operated. They are not conected to the dimmer.

Concerning the Info switch:
You need to solder (if you do not want to go the dremel route). The white plate with the contacts is in the way so if you desolder the contacts you can change the bulb. You could of course cut out the part which covers the back of the bulb...
The bulb is behind the connector plate and it has a smaller bulb socket, same bulb as the rest of the switches.

Be carefull with the small spring and do not bend the contacts from the switch itself.
