How very cool. In essence, an ODB-II sensor is just a device to capture an extended list of ODB-I codes. Thanks Henry for this info.

Yes, but you don't really need it for 93-95s. These have the diagnostic box in the engine compartment.

Hey everyone this list of codes was great but sadly enough most of the codes that registered on my car were not listed above. Ill give you the list and hopefully you guys can help me out. I thank you in advance.

A2: 436, 543, 454, 452, 545, 552, 554, 544, 542
A7: 113(service light reset?)
B5: 214

My A1: registered a 111(which is no code detected)
and my A2: also registered a 121(MAF sensor signal absent or faulty).

I hope you guys can help me out....I looked around other websites and couldnt find anything.

I had the same problem with a 94 a while back. It was suggested many of those codes may be secondary to the actual problem. Clear the codes, start the engine then monitor and address the codes which return first.

Yeah I tried reseting the sytsem and the codes were still there, do you have to reset it multiple times sometimes?

Now that I found my codes description maybe you guys can walk me through how to fix them??

My cat was clogged and I replaced it so i think that is why i got the codes:
436-rear o2 sensor max air compensation(i was driving around with a straight pipe for a little bit, no cat)
A2
543-missfire emissions atleast 1 cylinder
454-missfire excessive emissions cylinder 4
452-missfire excessive emissions cylinder 2
545-missfire catalytic converter atleast one cylinder
555-missfire resulting in cat damage cylinder 2
554-missfire resulting in cat damagecylinder 4
544-missfire catalytic converter damage more than one cylinder
542-missfire emissions level more than one cylinder
The 121 code I mentioned above stated MAF sensor was faulty.....it was so I replaced it awhile back, right after I replaced my cat(never cleared the codes)

A7
113-fuel gauge sensor open circuit(that one worriesme a little bit)

B5
214- driver airbag short circuit to ground(that one also scares me)
I do not want to be driving and have my airbag blow up in my face, than I crash

I am not sure what are you using to read codes. Usually these tools erase them, all codes at one shot.

Multiple misfire codes can be symptoms of the fuel pump relay, or fuel pump.

But again, you should erase them, all of them, and see what comes back.

Yeah i tried to, i use the module in the engine consoole....A area...put thing in the 7 spot and erase that way...but obviously its not working lol. Ill bring it to autozone and have them clear it for me, thank you man.

Autozone will not be able to do anything for A7 or B5. For A2 codes, maybe they will plug their reader inside and maybe get a few codes.

You need to read all codes, then erase them. Do you have the procedure on what steps to follow?

On the airbag code -- did you unplug the connector when you were doing work in the dash maybe? Is the horn working when pressing on the steering wheel pad?

Nothing will explode on your face, but it looks like the electrical wire got disconnected somewhere or maybe the clockspring. Simple fixes...

The fuel sender and the multiple misfire codes -- that's definitely sounds like there is corrosion at the fuel pump. You need to open the hatch and check. Does your fuel gauge work properly and show the fuel level correctly? There is also a way to check the fuel sender's condition by reading its ohms.

Oh okay wasnt to sure what codes autozone could pick up. Yeah there is like 5 stepsthat I wrote down which resulted in a clear. From what the directions said, if the red light blinks off and on multiple times the codes were cleared........so Ithought it was a success but sadly enough there still in there. Ill check the connectors this weekend, i had to change a few bulbs in the instrument panel so it is a possibility i disconnected something......my horn does work.

Yes!! lol that would be a terrible day...driving to work and bam....crash.

I will be honest my fuel gauge seems to be all off and my gas mileage has been suffering which also has to do with my oil change not being done yet, have to wait to payday....back to the fuel gauge.....i never really know how much i have....it will be on red......and it fills up in 11 gallons when there is 18 gallons in there....so i have to always save my receipt. what is the best way to check under the hatch..and where is it located. Also i know how to read the ohms but dont know where the fuel sender is, im new to alot of this stuff.....i am just learning as i go. Thank you again.

You can download the manual from K-Jet.org | Mechanical Fuel Injection Power!. Reading / erasing codes, SRS info and procedure on testing the fuel sender are all there. Plus you can search this forum of course. Start with the stickies at the top.

About erasing codes -- it gets easier once you get the hang of it.

I checked my codes with that DIY code checker today. It worked well, but I only found codes in the cruise control and AC ports. Though, I know for a fact that I have misfire codes. I couldnt retrieve any codes from the ECU port for some reason. I was able to clear the AC codes, but not able to for anything else.


Is there a way to reset that dang maintenance rqd light with this thing?

Damn, I hope I don't have the VDO style cluster. I dont have those diagnostic tools. Only the DIY code reader. Volvo is stupid for making that so difficult.

You can tell by just looking at it -- the trip-meter. I suppose you can use the DIY tool for a 96 VDO too, by connecting the green wire to the appropriate wire.

I don't have the 96 wiring Diagram though. If you find it, post it, and maybe we can make some sense of it.
