Might be getting 850 T5.
Well my dad is getting me a new car. We are currently looking at a 1997 Volvo 850 T5. I have a couple of questions.
1) Are there common problems to look out for? 2) Any factory defects or recalls to look out for? 3) Does it have LSD? If I get the car, I will probably be a very active member here. Thank you very much. |
RE: Might be getting 850 T5.
Search the 850 section as well.
The most common problems are the Evaperators and ABS modules. The rest os normal wear and tear stuff. Suspension, engine mounts,Axles, ETC |
RE: Might be getting 850 T5.
Thanks, I tried searching but I am having trouble with too broad of a search (the word problem shows up in nearly every thread) or no results at all. But I got some good search results for "newb" that helped me out. I still haven't found the answer to my question of does it come with LSD.

What is LSD? It wouldn't have anything to do with Jerry Garcia would it?

Browsing thru owners manual...
http://apps.volvocars.us/ownersdocs/.../97850_000.htm I did NOT find any reference to Limited Slip Differential. Our cars are FWD. I don't know of any other FWD vehicles with LSD. I know that my 1993 Honda Accord EX does not. You may be able to find LSD with Euro-spec 850 with 5-speed manual transmission -- not in the U.S. |

Volvo has never offered an LSD in any 850/V70's. Traction control is considered by some to be an 'electronic LSD', but from someone who races cars, it's not even close :) - AB |

Limited Slip Differential. I can't understand why I could not figure out what LSD stood for. I believe GM used to call that Posi-Traction in the Chevelle. I had it in my 69 Malibu and with snow tires that car would go anywhere in the snow.

Thanks for the responses. My 94 Altima has it. But it was only available with the SE or as an option.

I also read about it in Motor Trend's 93 Import Car of the Year competion. |
