Default more for yellow?

situations arise, and i am reluctantly toying the idea of selling the T5R. how much could i *honestly* ask in difference for being the yellow? typically, when i see these listed, they always advertise RARE YELLOW, and i know that, but then i compare to the book value, and seems the average seller is tacking on about $1k just for being yellow over black.

the kbb for the 95 t5r in my area is $3400, no color variation. not asking how much to sell it for, i'll determine that *if* i can bring myself to do it, but was curious what common amount is ... acceptable... to add in for being the banana?

You can ask for more, but it might take you longer to sell it because you have to wait for the right buyer. But honestly though, if it's still too much for the condition of the car, it might be hard to sell it. I could have bought a yellow, the guy only wanted like 3500 for it, mint interior, brand new tires, dealer serviced. BUT, it had 213k miles on it and the exterior was in poor shape, couple small rust spots and dings. I don't care if it was a yellow or not, I didn't think worth it, but it eventually sold, after a few months.

I picked up my yellow car for about $3,800 last year with only 78,000 miles on it. I have been offered $6,500 for it and did not sell it. I'm not sure why they don't bring more, I guess the Volvo image is not that great for the rare cars or otherwise.

IMO, a well serviced 850 is a lot better car to have than a 2008 Hyundai or something like that. Why pay 12,000 for a Hyundai when you can pay $3,000 for a nice 850 or S70? Your best bet is to park it in a high traffic area and see if someone asks you to sell it. How many miles do you have on it?

There was one on eBay last summer for $13,900 or something like that (Indiana or somewhere). It had only 21,000 miles on it. I think a guy in NY purchased it because one is for sale there now for the same price with only 22,000 miles on it. I wish I could find a clean yellow wagon for sale.

I don't think there is much in the resale at this time with the bad economy and all. Just the pride of having a rare car.

Yellows don't bring much more in than the standard 850 because they're only "rare" to a certain and relatively small car group that would be willing to pay the extra, to the rest of the general public, it's just an old ugly car. Hate to say it, but that's the general consensus, I'm told my car is ugly quite frequently, if it's not all curvy and whispy like the new cars, than it's not pretty. It's just finding that individual that is willing to pay extra four a 15 year old car.

And that yellow 850 on ebay I think is the same seller, because in one of the pictures, you can see he has a total of three yellow sedans, the other two are hiding in the background.

Any yellow T5R in decent shape, regardless of the miles, should sell for a minimum of $10,000. If I had the room I swear I would have at least one more.

kbb is Bull***t!!!!! Punch your car into kbb, then look at the difference between what a private seller should ask to what a dealer should ask; quite the difference! It's totally geared toward making $$ for dealers!

Get on craigslist and see what comparable cars are going for in your area. And yeah, area makes a big difference! Here in the PacNW it's a volvo hotbed! I've seen dealers asking close to $10K for any T5 w/less than 100K miles on the clock..

On average, a car is worth what an averaged group of people is willing to pay for it. Ultimately, a car is worth what one person is willing to pay for it. If a car is rare or not, makes little difference what one person will pay. In the overall scheme of collectible cars, Volvo 850's are not rare and yellow 850's are not rare because their is just a tiny cult following that knows they are(relatively) rare. Wait 20 years and then they might be rare. The question is, "will they be rare and collectible and by a large enough group to surpass a cult following"?

The point is, people with mint, 20k mile(or lower) yellow T5R's cars on ebay who ask 12-20 thousand dollars are totally insane but maybe crazy like a fox because that one buyer(moron) might actually pay it.

Asking an extra 500-1000 for a "yellow" is well within reason......kinda.

^ AGREED. I don't care if it's yellow or not, if it's not worth the asking price, I'm not going to buy it. Exactly why I turned down a $3500 yellow to keep my black run of the mill 850 turbo. But my 850 will be faster, more reliable, and will stand out more than any stock yellow when it's done.

People who own yellow are a cult? Wow.

By the way I paid about $5500 for mine about three years ago. It had crappy 15" wheels with snow tires so to me that alone knocks $1,000 off the value of the car. I thought I got a real good deal, but not great. Paid about $2,000 more for my white one a year earlier and didn't think I got a very good deal on that one, but I really wanted it so I paid the price.

One popped up in Atlanta with 127k on it. It was on AutoTradder for a week before they posted pics of it. I called this morning and they say they took a deposit on it. I was thinking about selling mine and going to get that one just to make a few bucks.

If $$$ wasn't an issue, I would pay $14,000 for a yellow T-5R with under 30,000 miles on it. The car is like a 5 year old car.

Oh yeah, if money wasn't an issue, I'd throw down that sort of change for a yellow. My situation was what my end goals were, either take 3500 hundred and invest into the car I had, or start over on a different car and be -3500. It's all in the eye of the beholder.

^ That guy's on VS. Platinums are cool, but same thing, I wouldn't pay extra for it. Plus, matching that paint color I hear is a bish. And once again, performance mods do not make a car worth more, if anything they decrease the value.

I agree that it's not worth $15K, but that is one nice car. And if you disregard what we all know the books say it's worth and think about what you are actually getting for your money, it's really a good buy.

Oh wait I read the mileage as 19,000 km, and then went back and looked and it's 190,000 km. That makes a big difference. Probably woth about 1/2 of what he is asking, maybe even less.

Yea, I was thinking about $6,500. The thing that really scares me about cars with mods is that they have probably been abused pretty bad. The thing may be on it's last leg.

I heard what Dave Letterman said about the modded 960 that he had and boy he had a lot of problems with the car. Sounded like a money pit. I guess you have to pay the cost to be the boss.

I'd rather buy a car NON MODDED.
