Default Muffler Question..?

I just had exhaust manifold changed, and car runs a lot quieter, but still has some noise esp. when accelerating. The mechanic who changed the manifold, says it's the muffler making the noise. I wonder if anyone changed the muffler in their 850 and what kind (OEM or aftermarket) you used. Also, can anyone advise the source of the part.

I use Eeuropart.com, and they have aftermarket muffler, not OEM, for $161.00.

Well, check it see if you have any holes in your muffler. In fact, check the piping and cat. converter while you're at it. Make you don't have any rust spots or anything. I believe the 850 exhaust is made of stainless steel, so it's pretty high quality.

Well the Muffler is one piece from the Cat all the way to the back. There is a Round Clamp that goes around th eflanges for both pipes. Is that what you are looking for?

Or are you trying to put an Aftermarket muffler on?

if you're doing a cat-back standard size...just make sure the pipe is slightly bigger than where the cat exits so the pipe can slide over the section of pipe exiting the cat and use a t-bolt clamp to clamp it down. Oh, make at least 2 slits on the pipe (one on each side) where the pipe slides over the cat so when you clamp it down, there's room for the pipe to get tightened.

If you you're doing muffler, it's about the same....slide the muffler over the pipe then clamp it down...but why "bolt" on a muffler when you should get everything welded??

tech: I wonder if there is a doughnut or something else to seal the connection between the cat and the muffler. I am going to use OEM muffler (Starla).

P.S.
The parts store was unable to say if the muffler comes w/ anything to seal the connection.

Thanks alot.

No Doughnut.
Just Metal pipe to metal pipe seal.
