My 1/4 mile time sucked...
 

Yesterday on my way home from out of town I checked my 1/4 mile time and I think it stunk.

I did have my wife in the car, a couple of small bags, about a 1/2 tank of gas, full size spare, and a couple of small tool boxes. Anyway, the time was 17.2 seconds. I was expecting something like 15.5, not sure how bad the weight effected it.

One thing I did learn that I was a little surprised about is the the time was the same in E and S. Someone had said that there was no difference @ WOT and they were right (I was wrong). There was no PRE-REV launch on my times, from stand-still idle to 1/4 mile.

for every 100 lbs of weight 1/4 mile time suffers by about .7 second.

I used to have a Celica that ran steady 13.6's. We experimented with passenger weight. Adding a typical 20 year old to the car lost a 1/2 second. So add up all the stuff you had in the car and yours probably closer to that 15.5 than you think.

If you had made this a guessing game and said you were going to the track and this is what you were going to have in the car then ask what everyone opinions where...I would have said High 16's low 17's.

Ditch the stuff (including the wife)and try again. Preload it.

Well, I figure that all the stuff weighed about 300 lbs. So without the stuff I would run maybe 15.2 or so. My sedan ran 15.4's and I think this wagon runs a little stronger. I think wagons are like 150 lbs heavier than the sedans.

ive done a 15.2 with my AWD no chip...

I just checked the specs and they say the sedan and wagon are the same curb weight. How with all that extra glass.

Other than that, it has the intermittant wiper on the rear window. I'm wondering if I can add a timed wiper relay to it like I did for the front wipers (vw style)?

the sedan and wagon curb weights there is a difference of a few hundred pounds. that rear diff is at least 50 lbs, drive shaft another 50, angle gear is maybe 69 lbs, add a hundred for extra sound dampening, and carpet and other various stuff.

May I ask how you are coming up with those numbers? Best way is to go to the race track and do a controlled test.

The old 1997 Rav4 AWD I used to have did the 1/4 mile in 15 second flat. That was at the track.

Brake boost too 3300 rpm's with every thing but you in the car and i guarantee your time will be at least 14.7s I believe our auto trannys are limited to around 190 ft lbs of torque so the brake boost really helps. Your tires will spin for a second but it pretty much eliminates the torque limiter. Don't know if you've ever tried it or not just saying it makes a big difference!!! This is assuming your running 14lbs...

@ Life: I have a ScanGauge II that I use for a lot of stuff. It has a lot of features one of which is to test / track preformance times.

As for the weight, I used the numbers off the Volvo website.

@ VolvoGuy: The scangauge will not allow you to "launch". As soon as it senses that you press the gas or the car moves it starts the timer.

....Ram air intake, shaved head with my own port and polish, larger injectors, manually tuned fuel map, header, gutted cats, high flow 2.25" exhaust. Slightly.

I removed the rear drive shaft for the track run. With the drive shaft it ran 16.2.

N/A cams, FMIC, a 16T and a ARD tune... especially if your thinking BORR..
