It runs! Maybe relay was main problem and that combined with filter that I think was orginal it couldn't pump fuel. Not sure if that's possible. Thank you very much to all who replied!

Great! Glad it is running again. From what I have learned over the past few years, if it dies suddenly just like someone shut it off, it could either be the fuel pump, pump relay, coil, or possibly the computer itself. If it dies by slowly losing power, that is a sign of slow fuel starvation which is most probably the fuel filter.

False alarm, it's dead again, sort of. Took it somewhere today that is about a 40 min drive. Made it 35 min and died. Luckily after trying to start it for about 5 min it started. But the last 5 min to destination it died one more time (able to restart while still rolling) and almost died several other times. When it came time to come home, it would start but not stay running consistently enough to attempt driving since I was in a good location to load on a trailer.

Picked up a fuel pump on way home. Guess I will try that.

Pull the fuel cap off after it runs for a bit and see if you get a "whoosh" sound or something that acts like a release of vacuum. You might have a clogged tank vent. Another idea is to pull the fuel hose off the fuel rail and stick it in a jar. Then have a helper crank the starter and see if you get good fuel flow. Also, if you use a clear jar you can take the jar of fuel and look for contamination in it, or let it set for about an hour or so and see if you have water contamination in the fuel.

Please keep us posted, I'm starting to think bad fuel or low delivery pressure.

Well I put a jumper wire in place of fuel relay to make pump run all the time with key on. Then I turned the key on and climbed in the back. Fuel pump wasn't running, then I tapped on top and it would run for a while and then stop, then I would tap again and it would start again.

You need to replace the pump. :(

Kiss4aFrog, where did you get that image from? Looks like the pump I got from AutoZone today. I wanted to get it from FCP but because it is about $50 cheaper, probably better quality, and I think lifetime warranty. But didn't want to wait for it to ship. Debating on returning AutoZone (AZ) pump and waiting for FCP now. Don't really like how AZ pump fits. First time I put it in, it was sticking out of assembly to far and I couldn't get assembly in the tank all the way. I don't really like how I'm going to have to adjust it to make it fit.

Anyway, any thoughts on qualty of a Walbro pump compared to Bosch? The box it came in says AirTex or AirTek but the pump says Walbro.

That is the autozone picture. I have a Walbro with a higher output if you're willing to wait for me to ship it. It's the one I was going to put into my 850 once I installed the 19T and the blue injectors. It's more than you need unless you go to a 19 turbo or bigger.

It's similar to the 225 liters per hour pump but a little less volume.

It's equivalent to a E8643 Airtex but it's really a re-branded Walbro and had the Walbro stamp on the body of it. It will supply more than enough fuel for a lightly modified 2.3 and it's what I specked for my modified KKK24 turbo engine.

for me the warranty if lifetime is worth the wait. I try to source locally but there are things that IPD and FCP have that others don't. The autozone pump isn't a stock pump it's actually an upgrade and it's branded Walbro but it's a bit shy of the 255 LPH pump a lot of the HP guys crave.

Definitely sounds like the pump is shot. So let me get this straight, the pump you had to tap on to get to work was the original one, or the one from Autozone?? Either way, I think I would return the Autozone one and get one that fits properly.

Psaboic, yes, the pump I had to tap on was the original one.

Just ordered another one from FCP, going to return the one from AutoZone. Was really hoping AutoZone pump would work out. It costs me about $15-$20 a day to be driving my truck, car is probably $5-$10.
