newly purchased 850 turbo questions?
hello im new to the site and had a few questions about my 1996 volvo 850 turbo. I bought the car with a pulled head. He claimed the headgasket was bad but i looked it over and it seems to be normal wear nothing major or signs of leaking at all? i was wondering if it would be a really good idea to have the deck of the motor checked for straight ness. I am also looking for a new turbo cylinder head to put back on it bc the stock one he did not label the cam caps and i dont want to buy new cams and re hone the bores unless its more cost effective. since the head is off and i am new to the volvo community what maintience should be done or is good to get out of the way. Also where should i purchase new head bolts? Thanks for any help or information!

Head work usaually cost some $$$, but it will be worth it:D.
I am surethereare some headsout there. Look in the For Sale section of this forum.I am sure you could find one at a juck yard. You could alsotry turbobricks or swedespeed. Good Luck. |

Im a little confused about a statement above.
I am also looking for a new turbo cylinder head to put back on it bc the stock one he did not label the cam caps and i dont want to buy new cams and re hone the bores unless its more cost effective. Are you talking about the lifters? Did he not bolt the cam cover back together? |

As long as the head is off, I would go ahead and check the block deck for any damage. You could alos check to see the condition of the cylinder bores (taper, ridge, etc) but unless the engine has a TON of miles of was severely overheated, you should be ok!

SO there should be nothing wrong with putting it back together. ok ill look at it again i never really looked at the head closly bc i assumed it was like any other ohc motor. well that might be good news after all. in any case the turbo is shot. there in and out play like crazy! so i need to hunt down a new turbo |
