RE: Oil

You don't want the oil to burn....

But Synthetic for cars w/ Boost is HIGHLY recommended.

I think 5w goes down to temperatures of -30F.

It's really unnecessary. No need to spend the extra cash, 10w is fine...And remember, I come from Minnesota so I know cold...

RE: Oil

Last greetings from Chicagoland.

As Tech has noted, oil selection is more of a personal preference than scientific facts. However, I would use 10W-30 for turbocharged engines, unless you live in the Arctic area and mostly do short trips. Once warms up, 10W-30 should suffice and 5W-30 may become too thin for the turbine bearing. But again, using 5W-30 won't harm anything. However, as RedTurbo has noted, I would definitely use either full-synthetic or synthetic-blend for a turbocharged engine. I personally use Valvoline Durablend 10W-30 and the car seems to be happy with it. Even though Volvo engines are noted for may miles of service, make sure to use good quality oil, as their engines are extremely sensitive to the quality & correct quantity of the oil.

In addition, make sure to use either OEM (MANN) filter or equivalent that has check valve in it.

I hope this helps.
